As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Sex Therapist, and Doctoral Student in
Human Sexuality, I am most interested in the intersection of sexuality, gender, and
ethnicity. I am currently working on an article that examines the historical/colonial
constructs of homophobia and the impact on Latino and African American men who have
sex with men (MSM). My dissertation will qualitatively examine the experiences of
Latino and African American MSM to look for overarching themes in understanding the
intersectionality of identities. Future areas of research interest include: therapists’
preparation to work with sexual/gender and ethnic minorities, sex therapy with LGBTQ
ethnically diverse couples, and testing therapeutic interventions that help African
American and Latin@ LGBTQ integrate ethnic, gender, and sexual identities.
